Color compounding & finishes

Pantone Masterbatch Compounding & Surface Swatches

From injection-molded ABS/PVC figures to hand-painted polystone statues, Takara compounds raw resin pellets directly to your Pantone Solid Coated (C) specifications. Every hue is molded into physical step-chips and verified under D65 daylight before steel cavities are milled.

Molded Plastic Chips & Tactile Finish Samples

Color on plastic behaves differently than on paper. We ship custom molded step-chips demonstrating how your Pantone color reflects light across high-gloss, semi-matte, dead-matte, pearlescent, and soft-touch rubberized coatings.

Pantone Solid Coated (C) Virgin Pellets • Zero Regrind UV Anti-Yellowing Certified
PANTONE199 C • Vinyl Crimson
PANTONE123 C • Toy Yellow
PANTONE2174 C • Resin Blue
PANTONE2685 C • Violet

Masterbatch Pellets

Custom-compounded pigment masterbatch mixed into virgin ABS, PVC, and PP resin for solid, depth-true color.

Surface Finish Step-Chips

Physical sample chips molded with stepped thicknesses to preview high-gloss, satin, matte, and soft-touch tactile feel.

Pad Print & Enamel Infill

Automated pad printing and hand-filled enamel pins color-calibrated to Pantone for crisp line-art reproduction.

UV Anti-Aging Testing

Accelerated QUV weathering tests ensure collectible figurines and plastic parts won't yellow or fade under shelf lighting.

How it's built

From Mold to Finished Unit

Four stages, the same discipline whether the mold runs a 3,000-unit first order or a 100,000-unit reorder.

Mold Design

Steel grade chosen for run length, wall thickness engineered against sink marks and warping before the first cavity is cut.

Injection & Molding

Parts are shot, cooled, and ejected on a repeatable cycle time, so unit 1 and unit 10,000 match.

Finishing

Pad printing, UV coating, or hand-painting applied after de-molding and deflashing.

Assembly & QC

Multi-part assemblies snap- or screw-fit together, then pass dimensional and surface-finish inspection.

Why volume matters for figures

A single resin or PVC figure with multiple articulation points or accessories can need 4 to 5 separate molds, one for each part cast and finished on its own. Each mold's upfront tooling cost runs around $5,000, spread across the whole run rather than billed per unit. At low quantities, that tooling cost dominates the unit price; at real volume, it fades into the background. That's why figure and art-toy orders need scale to pencil out, and why the minimum order for this category sits higher than for soft goods.

What's included

Anything Molded, Cut, or Cast

Anything molded, cut, or cast: it holds its shape without a single stitch. The core of this category is resin and art-toy figures: hand-finished collectibles cast in resin or polystone, and PVC blindbox figures produced at scale. Alongside those, injection-molded plastic, keychains, and acrylic parts run through the same tooling discipline: steel grade chosen for the run length, wall thickness engineered before the first cavity is cut so parts don't sink or warp as they cool.

  • Resin & polystone art figures
  • Blindbox figures (PVC)
  • Plastic (PVC & ABS)
  • Keychains
  • Acrylic (mica)
  • Enamel pins

Product safety

Compliance for Hard Goods & Plastic Toys

None of this is a certification Takara holds itself: it's what the partner network tests to and documents on every shipment, verified through accredited third-party labs on request.

Mechanical & Physical

  • ASTM F963 (US)Mechanical and physical hazards, including sharp edges left by de-molding and small parts that can break loose under stress.
  • EN71-1 (EU)Mechanical and physical properties for molded and cast parts sold into the EU.
  • ISO 8124-1 / -2 / -3The international baseline most Asia-manufactured toys are built to before a region's own certification is layered on top.

Chemical & Regulatory

  • CPSIA (US)100ppm total lead limit and a 0.1% cap on eight restricted phthalates, backed by mandatory third-party lab testing and a Children's Product Certificate for every production lot.
  • EN71-3 / REACH (EU)Migration limits on lead, cadmium, and chromium, plus REACH restrictions on Substances of Very High Concern in plastics, plasticizers, and surface coatings.
  • California Prop 65A separate warning-label requirement from federal limits, triggered by a listed chemical above its own threshold: a gap buyers miss until a shipment gets held at port.

Which standards actually apply depends on the destination market and the product itself; a quote will name the exact tests a given run needs, not a generic checklist.

Getting started

Minimum Order, Timeline & Spec Sheet

Everything you need to launch a custom hard goods program from mold approval to loaded carton.

Volume & Economics

  • Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)3,000 units per design. A mold has to be built before the first shot, which is why the minimum sits higher than soft goods.
  • Tooling InvestmentA single figure with multiple articulation points can need 4 to 5 separate molds at roughly $5,000 each. That cost is fixed per mold, not per unit, so it fades into the background at real volume; see the tooling note below.
  • Transparent Payment Terms30% deposit at signing, 40% before shipment, 30% within 7 days of delivery.
  • Prototype Rounds Included3 free sample revisions before mass production; $50 per additional round after that.

Mold to Shipment

  • Mold & ToolingSteel grade and wall thickness engineered against sink marks and warping before the first cavity is cut. Timeline depends on mold complexity and is confirmed at quote stage.
  • Mass Production30 to 90 days after tooling is approved, depending on order size.
  • Finishing & AssemblyPad printing, UV coating, or hand-painting, then multi-part assembly and dimensional QC, run inside the production window above.
  • Inspection & ShipFinal AQL inspection by Takara QC (or client-appointed SGS/BV inspectors) before container dispatch.

Spec Sheet Checklist

  • Reference ArtworkFront, back, and side views (vector AI/PDF or a 3D file such as STL/OBJ) with Pantone TCX or Pantone C color callouts.
  • Target DimensionsHeight, base footprint, and expected unit weight, with any size variants you need.
  • Material & FinishABS, PVC, resin, or vinyl; matte, gloss, UV-coated, or hand-painted.
  • Moving Parts & AssemblyPoints of articulation, snap-fit vs. screw-fit, and any accessories that need their own mold.
  • Target Distribution MarketDomestic Vietnam (CR mark) vs. international export (US ASTM F963/CPSIA, EU EN71).
